This work is set in Tropical Far North Queensland. The day was cloudy, which is pretty normal, but with a spectacular moment of light breaking through and onto the mountains. The iconic cane fields of the region lay at the foot of the mountain, at the bottom of the Kuranda range. 
 
The hyper-coloured rendition of the landscape is from a process Katherine follows. She decodes the colours to fabricate a new system of representation. The paintings may appear like a dream-like landscape - but there is a true authenticity to the painting. Painting the reality in front of your eyes is a powerful statement.
